I remember this day... I was about 10 or 11 years old. I lived close to Kahului Airport and remember all the sirens

I remember after this happened no one wanted to sit in the front seats of Aloha airlines.

The pilot was an amazingly brave hero of aviation history, they kept calm and safely landed, and all the passengers survived.

I just could not imagine what it must have been like to experience this.   Absolutely terrifying!  30 years later, I'd still be in therapy!

Can I just say that whoever built that plane did a fantastic job? To this day, that airplane still has the second highest number of flights out of any airplane in existence. Even after it broke apart, the floor boards held it together for landing and all the other instruments were in tact. It only broke because of poor maintenance and extending its life span.

Seeing a roof of a plane start to peel off would have been so surreal. The speed, the sudden impact of air. The noise.

I remember this well. I was a US Air Force Captain at the time. And as an engineer I was very surprised the air frame held up.

And I thought seatbelts on planes were pointless. I stand corrected

The fact no passengers were killed during that at 24, 000 feet at 430mph is insane. Also I bet if you were bumped from first class to the very back of the plane you went from feeling pissed to relieved to guilty
