such an adorable voice, adorable accent. and so sweet and creative. i've never watched your videos or even heard of you before, but this has really helped me. also, ideas:
1.) have a randomizer (random number generator, wheel picker - i like using the wheel randomizers) pick events such as random deaths, layoffs, and pregnancy when you get stuck.
2.) don't be afraid to kill sims off; it can really help make the game more interesting and affect all of the sims in their lives.
3.) play with lifestyles; everyone has their own lifestyle. One sim might be a healthy-food nut while another one might be a frequent traveller. if their personalities change, make sure that their lifestyles still suit them.
4.) move sims out occasionally. I still really struggle with this one, because i get really attached to homes. I'll move a teen out onto a flat lot with an ungodly amount of money when they're around 16 (age estimate since it doesn't have actual ages). Then, i'll build them their dream home and have them stay there until they eventually die. Who would wanna live like that?
5.) if a teen sim is an over-achiever, try to max some of their skills out and get their grades and performance to the max (as well as obviously completing homework) so they can graduate early. After that, when they go to university is your choice. But also don't do this too often. Don't fill your game with over-achieving robots like i usually do. Sometimes, you can have sims drop out if they're too stressed out (this can even include at home!!), or they just absolutely hate school, or their dreams don't require a diploma or GED. If their dreams change, you can have them get a GED and even go to university.
6.) Cause some mischief and chaos but not too much. Have a teen cause so much mischief and chaos that they get expelled. Or have them skip so many days that they get expelled. But also have calm, relaxed, and easy days.
7.) fulfill wants and lean into fears. fulfilling wants is so fun and interesting. and don't use fear-be-gone potions often if at all. lean into the fears. expose your sims to scary situations. have them actually confront their fears. and then, have them get over them however they need to.
8.) DON'T. RUSH. GAMEPLAY. Don't max your sim's skills and everything and then just age them up early, espeecially since this messes the ages up. there are INFINITE possibilities in sims 4. So, practice a skill and then do something else fun. go on vacations. ENJOY EVENTS AS THEY COME. So, during karaoke night at the bar, sing karaoke. During other events like ghost night at bars, if you can, have them enjoy those events. Go to sports days and career days and prom if you can.
9.) let your sims live their lives. don't give your teen the 2 highest-paying part-time jobs with the most hours and then get to the max levels unless they're actually an over-achiever. Don't have them do everything under the sun to make as much money as physically possible and then have them move out into a big, fancy home and get married and have kids as soon as they age up. Give them hobbies like you said. Give them personalities. Have them focus on things other than school, university, and family. even if they're parents, give them time off. have them go on solo vacations or go to a karaoke bar alone.
10.) have sims who live in several worlds and all around them. Have at least 1 household in most neighborhoods. Have some sims in small towns where everybody knows everybody or the big city where everyone's always on the move, no one owns their home (only rents it), and there's not as much time for socialization.
11.) build homes on empty lots. if you don't like a pre-made house, bulldoze it and make or download a new one. Have the houses in every single neighborhood be the same style unless the owners are rich and had a custom one built. Get used to styles, even if they're not your favorites. Embrace different cultures and styles other than your own. Have sims who like the culture and sims who don't. people like different things. it's part of being a realistic creature.

i find this to be the best way to play with my legacies! theres also a family tree mod called Life Generator by Sacrificial Junior that automatically makes relatives for you

I was already trying to add family pictures to the walls, but I never even thought about also adding pictures of the scenery and parties / events etc! Thank you, I love it 🥰💖!!

This is my favourite way to play. I play a few households rotationally which I find helps keep me invested in my save. I love the households interacting and let the game (and some imagination) drive the stories.
Thank you for sharing your ideas - there are so many options in game now for this type of play it's hard to remember them all ❤

I already have all expansion packs except the last 4, some game packs, some stuff packs and even some kits.
So, I already have lots of things to do.
Most of the time, I am working on aspiration-building, career-and-skill-building and whim-fulfilling.
Occasionally, an event pops up, and I will do that. Birthdays, weddings, holidays, parties, etc.
There is always something to do.
Even building is a game.

I watched like multiple videos today about this topic and honestly yours is one of the only ones that actually caught me. You have firstly just such a nice way of talking and you seem so emerged in the whole sims world. I genuinely feel like you love this game and love to create stories.
I love this game too, I have been playing since I was a little kid but I just started to like feel so empty and unsatisfied with my gameplay. It always starts great and then it just ends in smth i dont enjoy anymore. But I feel like your video really helped me and I think I can maybe come back to enjoying this game more. I wrote done some things to do and focus on and especially to not rush myself with anything.
I really appreciate your effort and the video <3

I am the complete opposite to this. I found that trying to play my Sims game like its a dollhouse simulation makes the gameplay too slow and unexciting for me. I am having to relearn to set my standards for myself and stop comparing my gameplay style to other simmers. This means accepting drama, accepting wild and wacky events, let chaos reign. Let the fun be randomized and go with the flow, because at the end of the game, the Sims isn't real life and its pointless to expect a game that's constantly got unrealistic events (and art style) to replicate my life, or anyone else's. Obviously, there's still storytelling involved but trying to fight the game just to micromanage it took away the fun for me, especially because I come from the original days of the Sims 1 where storytelling wasn't at the forefront of it, but surviving was. So, I play on shorter lifespans, I've increased the hardness of their needs and have made it so earning relationships is harder, to give the game a "fight or die" feeling, making those special moments all the more magical.

These are all great tips, but I still miss the open map! It was easier to be invested in multiple plot lines when I could switch control between sims without a loading screen. I could have one sim on a date, while the other one had friends over, while the other one was at work. I could queue up specific actions for all my sims no matter where they were on the map. There are a lot of times where I want my sims to do things in a particular way, but I dont want to actually have to watch them do it. In TS4, when I choose to go to work with one of my sims, I have to actively postpone progressing the storyline for the sims who aren't on that lot. Since time is still moving for other sims, it's impossible to spend as much time with each storyline as you could in TS3. Maybe I'd feel better about it if the options to control sims on other lots were a little more diverse.
