UK's New Dragonfire Laser weapons Successfully blasting drones out of the sky at £10 a shot

The UK has successfully fired a high-power laser weapon against an aerial target for the first time in a trial. It is hoped that the test will pave the way for a low-cost alternative to missiles to shoot down targets like drones. A military laser which could boost the UK Armed Forces with greater accuracy while reducing the reliance on high-cost ammunition has reached its next milestone.

Timely, just given that the uk shot down 8 houtis drones that cost £17, 000 each with missiles that cost £1 million each and claimed it a success. With that level of discrepancy in cost, that is no victory and unsustainable. So a laser at £10 a pop is a massive step forward.

This video just reminded me of the "Star wars" program announced by President Reagan in 1983, it was space lasers to destroy nuclear weapons in space, 30 billion dollars was spent on the idea and Clinton scrapped the program in 1993

They need to couple it with infra red, acoustic and radar target tracking.

Just to think that laser weapons are now a reality - after seeing them in sci fi for so long.

Laser weapon can actually destroy more than just drones out of the sky. But it actually does it job very well.

10 seconds is an eternity catching last minute targets at high speeds... Good start but it needs to work in 1-2 seconds...

Would it not be cheaper to use one drone to intersect another drone, a flying fast dart, a small model jet even which fly very fast

What happen if the drone is painted like mirror 😏

The enemy will eventually have lasers also, and counter measures for the lasers, what then?

Of all the possibilities! Why not Deathstar, Turbolaser or something futuristic? Whoever named it Dragon fire, should resign right now. Dragons are cool, but they don't have lasers!

So what exactly is the difference between this one that the UK is only just managing to get out and the ones that America has had for god knows how long?
