As a single digit handicap, when my shots start getting thin with little turf interaction on my scoring irons, I tend to focus on my left shoulder and making sure its working down and not around during the takeaway. Low point is very much controlled by my swing arc and being conscious of working the body under and not flat and around.

Thanks for that drill Mike, I`m going to give that one a try tomorrow to see if I can get a more downward strike. Playing at my course (particularly the Par3`s) there are always loads of broken tee pegs lying around on the Tee Boxes. Next time I play I`m gonna be a tidy golfer and pick them up and use them later doing your tee peg drill!!

Thanks for this drill. My launch angle on my 7 iron is currently averaging 26 and I need a drill to get it down. I will be trying this tomorrow in the simulator. My spin numbers are way too high so I hope this helps. Thanks

I struggle here the most. This video was perfect timing for me. Thank You.

thanks, i'm in the mid-teen-hcp range and my issue is consistency when it comes to ball-striking..
went onto a GCquad last week and we found that my AoA is usually around 0 with my irons, sometimes a bit down, sometimes even a bit up which seems to be the primary factor to that inconsistent ballflight. My pro wants me to be at around -2.5 to -3 degrees (without changing ball position during the setup) for my personal swing. I will definitely try the drill to get a steeper AoA.

Great tip, will practice with it and hopefully I will stop hitting behind the ball. I either pick it or hit it fat so this could help, thanks

I must say, I have become a fan of your videos, particularly on-the-course lessons. It is even more instructive when you show us the numbers, for it gives us something to think about and to understand that golf is always about fine tuning. Keep up the good work!

Excellent tip. For me the best part was seeing his 7 iron carry 168 with a 92 mph swing speed. It seems lately every YouTuber is hitting a 7 iron 180+ with a slower swing speed. It's had me baffled, as in I'm thinking am I doing something really wrong here. Started tinkering with my swing. Checking this that and everything else.

Great tip! I’m a 14.4 index trying hard to improve my game with consistency of mechanics. Yesterday shot a surprising 93 when I’m usually in the mid-to-high 80s. While some of that was strategic mistakes (wrong club selection), I counted 5 thin iron strikes that left me with demanding chips to hope for a par or bogey saving putt. I’m off to the range with this to see if I can get it into my thick brain before another round tomorrow.

Like this drill but any tips to avoid overcompensating and swaying forward on the downswing while trying to hit the tee?

My launch angle for my 7 iron is about 13 degrees. I’m looking to improve it to around 18. Should I practice using a tee behind the ball?

What is the perfect AOA for a 7 iron ?... Also, obviously the AOA changes as the iron gets longer, so what would be an ideal AOA for a 4 iron ? .. Finally, we see pro's taking huge divets to gain extra spin with their wedges, what should the AOA be for wedges ? .. Your videos are very informative and simple to understand and your club analysis is excellent

Nice swing drill.  I do sometimes wish that your camera had more frames per second as even when I slow the video to 1/8th speed, the mechanics of your swing can't be studied well - particularly as the clubhead nears the ball and is at peak velocity.   The ball is sitting there, suddenly gone and the camera does not even pick up the club.  It would be nice if you would sometimes film in slow motion to begin with as I really like your swing (maybe because we are almost the same height).

Can you overdo this? Would that lead to the other type of topping the ball?

Hmm no farting this time on the backswing 🤔🤔🤭
