This movie is criminally underated. It's funny, it's creepy, it's beautiful... it's an absolute work of art.

Does anyone else get a really specific special feeling from this sequence? The music, Norman walking by himself, makes me think of my hometown growing up in the early to mid 2000s. Like there's something just so cozy and heartwarming about the sequence, despite Norman speaking to the dead. I think that was the real magic of this film, the way it made the morbid charming.

I hope Laika never stops making these, even if I don't enjoy all of them to the same degree. This is my favorite of them all. This scene in particular, is one of the best. It tells you all you need to know about Norman's ability, how he handles it, how others see him, and the nature of the ghosts in general. The score is terrific, accentuating the oddity that is Norman while having a welcoming feeling. And Kodi Smit-McPhee did a great job with the voice work. He gave it just the right amount of quirk while sounding very gentle and sweet natured.
