Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness, part 1

Показать описание
Heart of Darkness begins on the Thames River in London, the most advanced city in the world of its day. And yet it "was once one of the dark places" of the earth. The fog in the landscape and repeated references to evil and darkness allows Conrad to lead the reader to question what he hears.

Wow! Great analysis. I love that comparison between the Theology of Glory and The Enlightenment vs Theology of The Cross. Thank you very much.

English is my second language. I studied literature at the university in the beginning of 90s. I always wished to study it again. Now I am really happy to come across this video
Thanks

Accurate analysis of darkness which is never easy to grasp. Heart of darkness can be compared to the eye of a tropical storm: darkness at Have you ever met dark spirited explorers whose consciousness was altered by their endless stay abroad ?Passion for a culture lead to a dual discovery which mixes deep emotional & spiritual gains. There is no possible return from such knowledge.

Thank you. We can only hope that someday a lot more of internet content is as thought provoking and educational as this and a lot less like "Boy Stuck in Refrigerator Eats Own Foot". BTW, Namaste is a Hindu greeting, not Buddhist. Edit: Boy, not Eoy. Never was any good at typing.

“Namaste or whatever… I don’t do that stuff… immediately false info:untrustworthy “… I am interpreting the text as critical of such black and white thinking-the greatest city on Earth being London is also sarcastic. You’re welcome.

Interpreting Marlowe's posture as a hint he should not be trusted ("false religion!") presumes that Conrad was a Christian, and a rather narrow-minded one at that. This presumption is patently false – Conrad had many flaws, but excessive religiosity wasn't one of them.

"namaste, or whatever they say...I don't...crazy stuff..."- Do you have a distant idea of what you're talking about? Apparently, you understand NEITHER 'namaste', nor Budhhism, and most importantly, NOR why this particular image finds its way here, in the text, while describing how the narrator sits.
Disappointed.
