Bungie, the studio once renowned for its iconic Halo games, and more recently Destiny franchise, has announced... another major layoff—less than a year after cutting nearly 10% of its workforce. This latest round of reductions will see approximately 17% of its employees, equating to 220 roles, eliminated from the company. Pete Parsons has spent 2.4 MILLION DOLLARS on cars, trucks, and bikes on one single auction site since late 2022.
Since the Bungie layoffs in October 2023, he's spent around $500,000 on vehicles.

Bungie are a bit like Turtle Rock, they got real lucky with one franchise pushing them into the limelight, and have been dropping the ball ever since.

New CEO appeals to buzzwords, slogans, and diversity, makes terrible decisions, bankrupts company, lays off employees, escapes with a golden parachute, repeat

as a latino, I can confirm basically none of us use this stupid /e and /x..
it's latino for male and latina for female.. other than that, only the plurals: latinos for a group of males or mixed males and females; latinas for a group of females only..
maybe my spanish-speaking colleagues can validate if the latam spanish has a neuter gender for groups, bc portuguese only has it for objects, not for ppl..

and it'd be way better if their campaign was something like "I am Bungie".. it's inclusive, it's not temporal, it's not offensive.. here Bungie, free idea I had in less than a minute..

This is the inevitable result of treating investors as your customers instead of your customers as your customers.

I bet modern Bungie devs say they work for the company that made Halo despite not being there when Bungie made Halo.

We told them. We told them if they made Destiny 2 all about a relationship between a gay robot and a gay balding old man people would leave. The entire story of Destiny 2 is now about a gay relationship. They even insinuated that beloved character Cayde is suddenly gay. They made it that crow was now gay. Devrim is gay. Drifter is gay. Oryx is non-binary, the list goes on and on of characters we once loved.

If you're working at a game studio and it gets bought out by a large mega corporation, just go ahead and find another job

By acquiring Bungie, SIE took $3.5 billion and flush it down the toilet. It is Destiny 2 that broke Bungie. Since it's release, they just cannot control themselves.

firing/laying off people through a social media post is not only scummy but also illegal

Hiring in big brand name tech has gone straight DEI. If you don't care about your ESG score it leaves a lot of good talent.

"In 2013, Nintendo released the Wii U console as a successor to the mega-popular Wii. It was a commercial failure, pushing the company into years of losses. To avoid layoffs, Iwata took a 50% pay cut to help pay for employee salaries, saying a fully-staffed Nintendo would have a better chance of rebounding."

Halo CE was magical. Halo died when 343 got their grubby mitts on it and the way Destiny was handled...that's all you need to know about Bungie.

DEI is backfiring and they absolutely deserve it. Hiring should be aimed at experience and merit. I do feel bad for the people who lost employment, its definitely unfair

Random "Bro awesome car. What do you do for a living to afford it?"
CEO "Making 220 people unemployed."

Well when a studio get invaded by "Business Suits" and kick out the original owner due to sheer incompetence. The new Owner will never care about quality of their product. Just there to reap as much profit as possible.
