If I've learned nothing else from your videos, don't renovate an old RV for major travel plans!!!! Ha!

Devil's club (the spiky plant you grabbed) is a key medicinal ingredient for salves and teas. It is very spiky though! The last time I was in Haines was for Southeast Honor Band in 1995!

So the spikey branch Eric grabbed is called devils club! They like to grow in boggy areas and are useful when trying to locate a spring or freshwater source. So sorry it got you! Those are weapons of the forest. Haines looks awesome, I’ll definitely check it out one day :)

Lived 30yrs there, watching you eat the Halibut brought tears to my eyes. I miss the seafood SO much. That and the Reindeer hotdogs.

Those thorny things are called Devils 😂. That tent with the chimney is an Arctic Oven brand tent. Very good winter camping tent up here. Wish you had time to visit Seward. Maybe next time. Great video guys ❤.

We loved Haines. Along that same river, we saw two junior Brown Bears. I think that’s like a teenager :) A local told me that their mom kicked them out when she gave birth to two more cubs. They were scavenging along that river. Lots of gems in Haines…..like the campground along the shore that hosts crab nights. All you can eat crab for $20 and you must bring a side dish.

Fun vlog🙂🦅. LOVED the hammer museum. Dolerite⚒️ is a medium-grained intrusive igneous rock found in eg dykes and sills. It is much harder than a lot of minerals with a hardness of 6-7 on the Mohs Scale (quartz is harder). That is why it makes a good hammer-rock.. it won't chip and break so quickly.

Even animals, especially moneys, use rocks as hammers. It was one of the first tooks we used in our evolution.

Rocks make great peg hammers when camping!

That shot of the bald eagle was EPIC! I love your Alaska series. Alaska feels like a different planet!

Being from Haines myself, I had to cringe where I saw you stopping along the Chilkoot River where you saw all of those dead salmon carcasses. That is a well known feeding area for brown bear and the bears that feed there are best viewed from your car. Unfortunately, you unknowingly walked right into it. Glad it was in between meal times! 🐻

I was very much hoping to see a big old bear sitting like a person eating a salmon. But bears up close are scary so hopefully you'll see some from the ferry. Who knew Haines is the cutest little town ever?

Haines is the outdoor center of the universe. Anything outdoors related, you have there. I live in Juneau, but love to visit Haines.

We recently traveled to Philadelphia, MO due to a death in the family (we live in TX), and on our way back home… we saw a BALD EAGLE (Laddonia, MO)! My husband’s aunt said they were common in that area! Such a majestic sight!
