The Planet That Watched a Star Explode

The Hubble Space Telescope grabbed awesome shots of Supernova SN 2015F, a Type Ia explosion in the "Meathook Galaxy" (NGC 2442), 50 million light-years away in Volans. In March 2015, a white dwarf in a binary system blew up, shining brighter than the galaxy with billions of suns’ worth of power. Type Ia supernovas help measure cosmic distances and reveal star deaths, element creation, and the universe’s expansion. The pic’s fiery glow shows the supernova’s intense heat, set against a starry deep-space backdrop.

The fact that we're seeing it explode 50 million years ago is crazy

Even though it's all black and white and blurry it's still beautiful

It's fascinating that the continents were actually joined together when this happened

*Remember:*
If a glowing dot in space doesn't have spikes from it, it is practically a galaxy.

Ppl really dont understand how powerful a supernova is. They showing a whole galaxy and the supernova became so big compares to it

It probably took millions if not billions of years for light to reach us and here it is, all the history of Earth and humankind in a single spark.

The light took 50 million years to travel to us, and it happened to just hit us within the 30 years that the hubble telescope has been online. Now that's special!

You never know... there might have been planets orbiting that star that had life, not just any life. Intelligent life, like us humans. Creatures that have thoughts and emotions. Seeing a supernova is more than just a flash. It might just be watching the death of billions or evan trillions of life forms. They thrived on the planets orbiting, and the saw a flash. And then vanished, reduced to atoms. Never to be seen again...

Isn’t it crazy how, that stars death was the beginning of our star how that dust will make more stars and planets and maybe even life

Whole neighborhood was sterilized in an instant. And we're like - why we don't see aliens out there? Welp, that's why.
