Superman is no stranger to having his villains try to ruin his life, but this silver age plot is certainly unique. Lex Luthor decides to conquer the Man Of Steel by becoming his father...literally. It's a classic Superman tale by Jerry Siegel with art by Curt Swan guaranteed to make you ask questions like but why tho? And is this worse than when Lois tried to marry Superman's dad? We discuss here on Casually Comics!

Combine both the Lex and Lois stories and you'd have a fun new addition to your Lois Marries… series. Lois travels back in time to marry Superman's father when Lex already replaced him.

Mercy: Lex, if you want to play a game of catch with Superman, you can just ask…
Lex: No! I LITERALLY have to be his dad, that’s the only way it will count… lol

I LOVE it when old school writers were clearly annoyed by the fan mail sections of their books and had to preemptively write around expected critiques. Like how Lex had to stop the story dead to go “BTW my clothes also grew due to residual radiation” and “Oh btw I learned the language of krypton long ago!”. I can tell that the kids of America were getting ruthless cutting into these silver age plots

Question is, which is funnier? "Who's your daddy?" or "Brainiac, I'm coming!".

Wait, there’s Superboy origins where he ISN’T Clex’s gay love child? I REBUKE IT!

Lex really wanted to committed to the "i was with your mom last night" insult i guess

You've got to love the Silver Age. No weird idea left on the shelf. No petty scheme left unexplored.

Lex: Hey may have been your father, boy... but he wasn't your daddy.

Now I'm imagining a time travel story where Lex tries to save Krypton, but only to stop all these filthy kryptonians from ending up on earth.

6:52 casually stealling the surname of your presumably death ex boyfriend is wild

That panel where she says Lex isn't handsome is one of the most handsome looking panels of him, Lara's internal monologue did him dirty.

I like to imagine the writers sitting round coming up with this story.

Writer 1: “What should we write to put in this issue alongside the memorial for the recently assassinated beloved president?”

Writer 2: “How about a story where Lex goes back in time to sleep with Superman’s Mom.”

Writer 1: “Perfect!”

We got Lois and Lex trying to mess with Clark's bio-parents, but is there anything with his adoptive parent's? Maybe this is why Clark is so cagey about his secret identity, especially with Lois. Imagine all the shenanigans if people knew!

If I had a dollar for each time Lex has tried to be Superman's daddy I'll be Lex Luthor

Superman has Mariah Carey's "obsessed" playing every time he's in the same room as lex

I could see Jimmy trying this so they could be father and son instead of just pals.

I think a much better ending would have been because Jor-el had went underwater he then discovers the first signs of Krypton's downfall, meaning because Lex went back in time he set in motion them having enough time to build a ship to save their (upcoming) son.
