My home town in Kingston Canada, has a grave of former slave own by George Washington who escaped to the British Soldiers lines and freedom during revolutionary war. I was amazed by this fact of history.

Linens like Martha had would have been very valuable back then. I guess we take that stuff for granted now. I don't know anyone that locks up their linens nowadays.

I visited a replication of a Colonial Village in New Jersey a few months ago. One of the workers there said that when people slept back in those days, they slept sort of sleeping up, which would account for the shorter beds. I investigated it, and found that there is some truth to it. Anyone have any comments, questions or thoughts?
