What's a Ping? | Linux Ping Command Explained

In this video, we'll cover the ping command. The ping command tests the connection between the local machine and a remote address or machine. These commands send a small amount of data (an ICMP packet) to the remote host and wait for a response. If the system is able to make a connection, it will report on the “round trip time” for every packet.

The SF/Bay area apparently is one of the only places where someone can say "I'll ping you later." to reach out to someone. I've asked people who travel to other parts of the US and other countries and they tell me others don't understand that.
