The Nemean Lion is a legendary creature from Greek mythology that was fought by the Greek hero Hercules.

It was famed for its golden-furred coat which was impervious to mortal weapons, making it virtually invincible.

The Lion resided in the region of Nemea, a town located in the Peloponnese region of Greece.

The slaying of the Nemean Lion was the first labor imposed on the Greek hero Hercules as part of his 12 labors. The goal was to bring back the skin of the lion.

Hercules discovered that his weapons could not pierce the lion's hide, so he blocked the exits of the lion's den and wrestled it barehanded, eventually strangling it to death.

Following the lion's death, Hercules skinned it using its own claw and from then on wore its hide as a protective cloak, symbolizing his victory and the lion's invulnerability.
