I think the batter knew what he was doing by running in the grass that way. 🤔

“It’s gotta be something intentional”

- like running off the baseline?

Kudos to the base runner for the heads up running.

Smart play by Grandal (coming from an Astros fan) but horrible rule that it’s acceptable to purposely get in the way of a throw home .

I say that's the difference in someone getting an out at 2nd and throwing the 1st and the guy running the 2nd being in the way of the throat of 1st

Simple Solution. A first baseman now chooses to plant one in the runners teeth or chest. Runners will stop doing it after the first one.

Dude I played when I was younger, just small-town little league, I've always had a place for baseball in my life, while most around me are football people (I'm from Alabama, Go Barons) but your videos have reopened my love for it. These videos are top notch man thank you

I knew you could go off the baseline on the outside when planning on going for extra bases but I think that runner did that on purpose and well played by him. If you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying 😂

Nope. There is a specific lane that the batter/runner must maintain going to first base. He’s on the wrong side of the base line. Hi lane is the base line and three feet to the right of that line. He interfered with play.

How far does he get to stray from the baseline? Can he run towards 3rd? There's got to be a limit even if you're running somewhere in the direction of 1st.

1B should have played chicken with the batter and lined it at his face-

"The runner gets to establish his own baseline."
This is the first I'm hearing of this. Thank you, Jomboy!!❤

Batter should have been called out for interference and the guy coming home should have been sent back to 3rd. He clearly did not keep the same a left handed hitter. He ran 1st 2 steps the baseline then went to the grass.

Bullshit this isn't t ball he was intentionally blocking the throwing lane knowing his teammate was going home

Base path, not baseline! Let’s get the terminology correct!

So basically if a batter finds themselves in this same situation just make yourself as big as possible and block the throw.

I believe he runs in the grass to get more traction while running to first

Thats ridiculous. The baseline is there for a reason and batters should always have to stay in it in order to prevent any kind of interference unless rounding for second. He intentionally ran a good 2 feet to side to interfere with the throw. Come on. They need to revamp the rule book.

Batter running inside the line and Astros don't benefit from the call. I'm shocked.

If the runner intentionally interfered, it's an out no matter where. But yes, that looked unintentional to me. "That's nothing."
