I appreciate your measured take on this show and look forward to your coverage of S2.

RoP has become the current Thou Shalt Not Like directive on Youtube, where any positive take on any of it, in any way, elicits accusations of being a shill or whatever. I 'm actually not a huge fan myself of S1 overall - I think it was poorly structured, and it played too fast and loose with the source material to not expect a backlash of some kind. But I look around at some YT channels and they seem so offended, or treat the show and its actors with such derision, that I wonder why they bother covering it at all (...well, of course, I do know: for the clicks).

So thanks again. S2 may turn out to be awful, but the trailer hints at something better, at least.

I don't have high expectations.
But i will give it a shot.

My biggest concern is how exactly are they gonna re-tread the "sauron fools the elves" again.

They did that with Hlabrand in s1. Doing it again seems a bit weird. I think they should have just had this be the first season since that's how it happens in the books.

I still don’t believe it will be “good” yet, but I do admit that as an individual piece of art, this trailer is great. But while I do hope for a better season, I’m also keeping my expectations low. Always expect the worst, then you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Also, I started my rewatch the other day in preparation, and though I’ve only had time for ep. 1 so far, rewatching it with fresh eyes after only remembering the frustrations has allowed me ro see some of the more positive things. But that first episode wasn’t where anyone had major problems, we were still planning on letting it get a few episodes in before judging what it would be. So we will see, but I do have some new notes that are largely more positive than last time, I just don’t know if that will last.
