The first encounters with volatiles in DL1 is still one of the most pants shittingly terrifying moments in gaming. There's something about hearing that screech in the dark that grabs you by the guts and starts to squeeze.

Dying Light 1's night was extremely terrifying. Even after I became stupidly op I barely tried facing off against them unless absolutely necessary, because where there's 1 volatile there's 7 others homing in to your position. On the other hand, in the early days of Dying Light 2 nothing was scary at night... that is until they added the night update. And now I'm playing a nightmare run with my friend and I have never screamed out of fear as often as I have now with night time

Crossbow and staying at a high place with uv lights nearby is usually a easy way to farm large infected trophies

The shotguns and assault rifles are amazing, once you hit the level where ammo is always available in every shop its a breeze. If you have any DLC you can take a german 9mm and rifle of any kind and suppress them for scrap parts making the assault rifle just loud enough to attract virals in populated areas when used enough. and the 9mm... my sweet torn whisper.. that shits quiet.

The double barrel can be turned into a slamfire 6 shot tube fed shotgun for cheap aswell.

The guns are called:
German9mm>torn whisper
(Any)rifle>volk assault rifle
Doublebarrel>dispatcher

as someone that played DL1 a few years ago till 50% completion, and now starting again, but on controller and on nightmare mode, the first time the game forced me to nighttime and told me to run to base, i got killed 20 times while full on sprinting...

I use my UV flashlight for every single one. The GRE facilities went from impossible to super easy for me.

I remember the very first day D1 came out and it was that night mission and the game introduced them to me. When I found out I had to run from these guys I was on the edge of my seat. Never had a game where I was being chased and it felt like they were right behind me irl. The loud footsteps, breathing and Kyle’s voice made me almost have an anxiety attack.

By the end of Dying Light, I was Harran's killing machine. I barely remember being afraid of volatiles. My friend and I played this to death until we wer both unstoppable. Then late one night hunting bolters, we both got a bolter kill at about the same server tick in the same game and it glitched. We each got over 150 bolter tissues.

As a legend level 250 player (DL2), I kill volatiles however I want with ease. As a max level player in (DL1) I run away like a little b!tch.
