That scene is always tough to look at. To think Dom has been fighting and each town he visits, he asks if anyone has seen Maria. Only to find her in this condition.

I just noticed the colors/saturation on Dom before and after seeing Maria. At first, he was quite colorful with skin and so, when he reached the capsule and had her in his arms. He was full of hope and happy to save her.
But once he realizes what has become of her, he became almost gray. All hope was lost.
