One of the best intros to a game ever. So much of the direction in this intro hits so hard. Great visual storytelling and music!

The cut from 1:12, the framing of 1:29, the sorrow and pain of three kids trying to find each other again but ultimately failing twice, the heartache of them holding hands while asleep on the beach 4:08, the sudden transition to Roxas at 4:10 revealing there's a mystery to uncover.

But without a doubt, the best part is the Chain of Memories portion of the intro. 2:50 onward is a masterclass in visual storytelling. The beautiful transition from animated sketches back to 3D, the sudden, haunting, and twisted change in the music, and the desperate fight from the trio to reach the top. And then at 3:19 to see Sora run up the stairs with Riku running ahead, a metaphor for Sora and Riku's relationship, only to see Riku and Mickey running back upside down about to walk under Sora, Donald, and Goofy, representing them not realizing how close in proximity they were at Castle Oblivion. It also shows how much Riku sacrificed to ensure the safety of his friends by staying behind the scenes.

Do you know how many time's I Cried Listening to this opening when i first played KH2, after Suffering From KH1 & Chain of Memories, I could not even start the game untill, I had Listen to that opening almost 50 times, its one of the best opening's of all time

This whole game was perfect. And it came out at the perfect time too. The intro. The music. The gameplay. The story. How it picked off from the previous game (Even though I hadn't played chain of memories & was wondering who the hell the awesome cloaked guys & namine were). Peak kingdom hearts in my opinion. It didn't get much better than this.

From an animation standpoint comparing the first games animation to the second the difference is impressive. They only had 4 “actors” in the scene but this one has 16 unique characters models (including the birds) at the end of both.

They managed to take a very simple combination of environments in KH1 and make an entire feature film that hit all the right moods to establish the series with just 3 character models, movement, and surreal shots in the first then doubled down on that harder in KH2 intro.

Now that i dont play games like that anymore, There's always something with this song, something so mysterious about it, when she says "my fears my lies...melts away" you forget that this is kingdom heart it feels like she's talking about death, the song is so calm, and the animation really catchs the feeling that the singer is trying to show. That seinen i think, Starts with the boy and his friends in a small island, it ends with the boy with his friends in a small island but now they dead (what i tought before knowing the series and after watching this for the first time) and everything that happened in between it didnt matter, the being the draw your life will also draw the end of it, and thats ok.
