Volvo Dropped New Cars From A Crane (To Save Lives)

Показать описание
Volvo dropped a bunch of new cars from a crane; they say it was to help rescue services save lives. Yep, they dropped brand new Volvos from 30 meters high for the greater good. When cars impact the ground at over 80 km/h, the cars get messed up, and rescue services can test out all their cool life saving equipment.

FYI, Volvo used to do so many decades ago. This was a way to proove the safetyness of their cars. Also a nice publicity.

Horizontal crash tests may be the standard, but it's far more spectacular (and simpler in many respects) to accelerate the car by dropping it from a height.

Volvo has been doing that since at least the 1970's. I used some old film of the test for a project in 1995.

It's one way to get reliable crash and crumple zone data cheaply and to use the rescue methods to design cars that are safe but can still be accessed by fire-fighters when needed.

The comparisons for us Americans didn't help one bit. lol. However, I have owned 5 Volvos all at once and am down to two. I love Volvos. They never rust and are super safe and reliable. My newest one is 2007 with 250K miles and still going.

For the Americans, 6 girrafes are approximately 240 hotdogs tall.

I think Americans would better understand the speed as 4.4 giraffes per second.

Common to do this in Norway with older cars to show high schoolers the rhe effect of a car crash.

Then the firefighters practice/show the rescue prosess.

A couple of years ago fire departments complained that they were not able to train on newer cars. Newer cars are more difficult to cut open due to better safty cage (Stronger pillars).

This seams like a good symbiosis: Volvo gets more daya from the cameras, and the firefighters gets to practice on newer cars.

Volvo sacrificed their 3 point seatbelt design patent for all manufacturers to use and make all cars safer. They are a legend for that
