"Aah, so it's like that, huh. I understand everything now."

The reason they haven’t made a sequel is probably because they are trying to do some story scenarios in the prequels for it to add in the sequel to maybe find a way to beat mental

SS4 > SS3:BFE > TFE > TSE

SS2 is up in the air, depending on if Croteam do a new SS2 or a SS5 leading on from SS2.

I got my headcanon for the deal with timeline manipulation in the franchise, that we see some of in SS4 and SS:SM's ending. Here goes:

Serious Sam at some point encounters Mental and prepares for the fight. However, it turns out that even he is not Serious enough to take down Mental, not alone. The name "The One Infinite" might actually have meaning, as in Mental might be some kind of entity spanning many dimensions, or above the concept of time. So, simply killing him would not be enough, he would have to somehow be annihilated across all levels of existence that he resides on.

Sam realizes this, and, with the acquiring of some technology that may be based on the Time Lock, starts building a network of operatives of alternate-timeline Sam's and other peoples to conduct moves in different times & places to manipulate a battlefield that spans above our perception of reality. Future Sam in SS4 might just be another agent in this network. Sam in TSE talking to his later-in-the-series self in the phone booth could be seen as typical communication between these operatives, not only as a funny 4th wall break.

In other words: it's complicated, just roll with it.

BFE in name means "Before First Encounter", it is prequel to all Serious Sam games

Very well put together, concise and to the point. Always liked the plot of Serious Sam games. Many just ignore it completely, but it does a good enough job of giving purpose to what you are doing in the games.

Also props for ignoring the atrocity that was Serious Sam 2, especially since it was confirmed non-canon. I like to think of it as "Sam on shrooms" or some deranged dream he has on the space ship he gets on after the 2nd Encounter, where he gets to sleep for probably the first time in days. Really glad they started taking it "seriously" again in Serious Sam 3. However, the alternate dimensions they started doing in Serious Sam 4 and Siberian Mayhem honestly kill it for me. Was waiting the entire time for Siberian Mayhem to seamlessly blend back into Serious Sam 4, only for them to go "never happened lol, thanks for playing"....

I watched this video prior to installing serious Sam 4. Your video was exactly done when the game was installed. Hats off to you

As a kid, i always played serious sam mainly to kill the aliens, and at that time, i never got into mind that serious sam has an actual story, (excluding serious sam 2 which felt more like a spinoff, but i still enjoyed it).

Most of the time, Military Nick Names are a play to the person receiving it, which is usually opposite to who the real person is. "Serious Sam" ideally should have been given to Sam contrary to his actual care-free, unserious nature in the face of danger or adversity because he would never take anything seriously....which would make sense since he's on a suicide mission and is not fearful of death or outcome. The story writers should have written it like this instead.

It's funny how the Syrians are described as being taller and hairless in the lore, but the undead Syrian soldiers in Mental's army actually are roughly the same height as Sam (if not a bit shorter even) and those of them that still have their heads (some variants carry their heads in their hand) have hair.

Let's then all remember that all this mess happened because Mental was woken up way before than expected, of course he was that pissed!

Apart from silliness, let's also remember that Sam Stone is one man against the army of Mental alone in ancient Earth and planets, this makes him 'serious' as his mission is 'serious', Netricsa reminds him that he cannot die at all after all (also because she probably likes him, cannot blame her).

Not only that, but he also originated the mess and now brought the chance to humans and potentially more races across the universe to get rid of Mental once and for all, at least there is a positive side.

Speaking of Mental, it's well underwhelming to consider that he is one being who managed to create such a chaos, cannot imagine if his race were still alive, I wonder who killed or banned them all but Mental, the fact that Mental is basically the classic 'dictator' who could shape other living forms' mind is not surprising, Mental's got actual allies and thanks to his innate magical powers he can also probably re-use killed enemies and bring them to life, thus making his army virtually 'infinite' but of brainless beings considering that even Sirians soldiers aren't such great fighters and the other aliens are true beasts.

All in all, yeah Sam, the enemies and Mental are still the same story as other FPS games, but Serious Sam's got some atmosphere and in my opinion some humanity that is always good to see, other FPS games have it if we deeply analyse the protagonist and the antagonist, but Serious Sam openly depicts its universe in a certain way that you feel the pressure and danger all the time.

Yeah you have aliens like Duke Nukem 3D, a macho protagonist just like the Build Engine protagonists and humanity is basically dead like most of other old school FPS games but it is present all the time especially in Serious sam 1 since ancient Earth makes you see human presence on our planet since those eras, real and concrete presences, from the pharaohs to Gilgamesh, in the other games simply they do not exist almost except for the locations you visit which were built by other people but other than that they're generic without a true 'history'

I am convinced that SS3 takes place in an alternate timeline of SS4, simply because of the characters in both games. Like **** S P O I L E R S ****

Jones is already dead in SS4 and yet we see another Jones in the intro scene.
Rodreges and Hellfire both have different personalities in 3 & 4 and somehow both die easily. In SS4 they were almost equal to Sam in holding up against waves and waves of enemies alone.

Also, remember that final battle in SS4 where all of Earth forces where fighting off the aliens until Sam arrived? I mean I get that many humans have already died between SS4 & SS3, but I still feel like they were able to hold off the aliens a little longer in SS3, that if I want to take the goofy side of the series into consideration for why humans are able to keep up over a realistic approach.

The devs completely contradict both titles to each other to a point I cannot see SS3 as a sequel to SS4 unless it is in a different timeline. And since future Sam mentions "timelines", I think the possibility is more higher.
