The OODA Loop was named by Air Force pilot John Boyd to describe the psychological process leading up to an action. The power of this concept is to identify bottlenecks in response times during violent encounters so as to speed up reaction times. OODA loop can also be used to gain a tactical advantage over an enemy by causing bottlenecks in their decision making processes. OODA stands for OBSERVE, ORIENT, DECIDE, ACT and has become the basis for law enforcement training models. In this video, Instructor John Lovell teaches 1 Man Room Clearing students Boyd's OODA loop using visual examples as well as fun pop-culture examples like Sherlock Holmes.

In the book Ender's Shadow, Bean called this concept "know, think, choose, do." Granted he was about five years old when he coined the phrase, so no judgement on his simple words, but it's cool to see he was on the money. I wonder if Orson Scott Card was specifically referencing OODA when he wrote this or if he inadvertendly envisioned a similar concept on his own.

I would love to do some rifle or pistol classes with JL. Unfortunately every time I see he is anywhere near me the class is full. Down below I saw someone suggest making a dvd of some of his courses, I think that would be a decent money maker. Hint hint
