I personally enjoy this concept. Assuming only materials were paid for, I have always been impressed by volunteer organizations banding together to build homes for struggling families (No not the folks you see on TV, but other charitable organizations specifically). Volunteers can change the way our world works. Now if only we had more willing participants.

I live here. It's warm, cosy and bombproof. Have insulated the roof though.

Sadly, this sort of construction is frowned upon by mortgage lenders. The concrete slabs are a nightmare to warm, and so tend to create condensation on the inside of the structure, leading to mould. However, it's the fore-runner of the Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) system that is used on many self-built homes.
