8 Killed as Ida's Remnants Trigger Flash Flooding in New York Area

Sep.02 -- The remnants of Hurricane Ida ripped through New York, New Jersey and across the Northeast Wednesday night into early Thursday, killing at least eight people and triggering tornadoes, thunderstorms and torrential rain that inundated streets and paralyzed transport services. I'm surprised so many people are having an existential realization about how indifferent nature is. Nature has no preferences; these are just physical laws in action, cause and effect. You heat up water? It boils. You cool something below 32 fahrenheit, it freezes. You heat a planet, this happens. I mean, this shouldn't be surprising to anyone, the science told us this was coming. Because we have no models to make predictions from, we have no idea how this will evolve except that year over year, weather will be completely unpredictable and always be worse than before.
