I sang “I Loved Her First” to my daughter a few years ago at her wedding. My heart was so full. My son-in-law bristled a little at the message of the song. A few years later, his daughter was born and he said to me, “Dad, I get it now.” Warmed my heart. Nothing like a dad’s love for his daughters.

On my 40th birthday my husband called my dad and told him I had now belonged to him
longer than my dad. My dad replied, "She will ALWAYS be mine!" Even as he was dying of Alzheimers, and he couldn't remember my name, his face lit up every time I saw him. Enjoy your Daddys as long as you can. He's gone now and I feel like I lost the only person on this earth who loved me, no matter what, unconditionally.
