Spacebit Mission One: UK's 1st Moon Rover to Launch in 2021

Показать описание
The United Kingdom is set to make its own giant leap soon, with a very small rover.

A 2.2-lb., four-legged robot Asagumo built by Spacebit will launch aboard Astrobotic's Peregrine moon lander in July of 2021.

The special feature of Asagumo rover is its tiny size — the basis of a rover is a single-unit CubeSat frame usually used in tiny satellites. Spacebit aims to launch a fleet of these little robots to explore the lunar subsurface and near subsurface — especially lava tubes that would be a good place for a future human settlement.

Glad the UK is finally taking space exploration serious. Can’t wait to see the UK head to the moon next year.

Очень амбициозный план =) Болеем за вас, ребята, надеемся, что у вас всё получится. Шагоходы рулят!
Будет видео с тестами этого шагохода на земле?

Super cool. Surely some sort of deployable beacons/breadcrumbs would be needed along the tube?
Also those feet are looking mighty pointy given the fine lunar dust surface…

What about the power source? Some Li-based battery only? Because presumably there will be no sunlight in the tubes and how long could then the rover function?

Why legs not wheels?
Why communicate directly to earth rather than to satellites orbiting the moon?
Are you developing a 'CubeSat' type standard format for moon rovers?

Etymology: peregrin, old Fr. peregrinus, Lat. The received opinion, that putrefaction is caused by cold or peregrine and preternatural heat, is but nugation.
