Slash's Shred Scale Sequence

This is a cool pattern to use in many different ways, but I wouldnt expect Slash to play this for more than one bar. His shredding style is one of the most mysterious because he doesnt rely on logical repetitions, and uses a combination of picking and legatto that's unpredictable and melodical.

I found this very same exercise in a jazz book. It's recommended that you practice it on every key from the first fret and up.

I spent 1 1/2 years solid (on top of 8 years playing in bands but not really trying to become much of a lead player), 3 hours a day disciplined practice with patterns. Ascending, descending, modes, maj/min pentatonic etc. Never got anywhere *near* this level. I just have slow fingers, I guess. Also, I never could get alternate picking to work for me.

Another easy way to do that same descending/ascending run is to do it all on the same string like Yngwie does in a lot of his playing.

Am I the only one who thinks that descending is easier than ascending for scale note groups?

I tend to play these kind of patterns using economy picking rather than alternating every single note, specially when i change string with the pick. Do you think this might affect that "shred" sound you get when you play fast?

It got really wild towards the end(the really fast scale)! I cant pick that fast and solid, what would you recommend for improving that? Im kind of stuck just practising it over and over. Hugs!
