Travel is the best teacher 🌎

Growing up in North America I always heard certain things about other countries

Often stereotypes told to me by people who have never visited the place they were talking about

And that’s one reason why I travel

To see places for myself and form my own opinions

So here are some common misconceptions about some countries that I found to be untrue when I visited 👇

“Colombia is extremely dangerous” 🇨🇴
Sure there are some unsafe parts of the country (like every other nation), but overall I felt perfectly safe there. Many people seem to be stuck in the violence of the past.

“India is dirty everywhere” 🇮🇳
Again, there are some unclean places, but you can’t say the entire country is dirty. I visited various states in India and saw so many clean and well maintained places.

“Czechs are cold and unfriendly” 🇨🇿
I lived in the Czech Republic for a year and made lots of connections with lighthearted, friendly Czech people.

“Mexico is only good/safe at resorts” 🇲🇽
Many of my American and Canadian friends were surprised when I said I was going to Mexico but not staying in a resort. The country is incredible to explore and you don’t need a fancy beach hotel to enjoy it!

“China is close minded and has no freedom” 🇨🇳
People in China are so welcoming, friendly, and make daily choices and live their lives like so many people around the world.

“French people are rude” 🇫🇷
Sure this might be true in Paris when there are tourists everywhere. But in my experience, I’ve spoken to a lot of kind French people. They even spoke English too 😱😱. Can you believe it?
