Fun fact, the young girl who took a shine to Seven is played by Autumn Reeser in her very first acting role.

Another episode that was maybe trying to set up chemistry between Seven and Chakotay and failing just a little less miserably than licking sauce.... I still feel traumatized by that 20 years later.

Guess whoever designs the shuttles also works on the holodecks, given how often they both get buggered.

5:57 I always figured the shield wasn't transparent, but was also projecting a holographic recreation of the forest below, albeit one without any signs of humanoid life, native or recently visiting.

OMG~!! I love how how Seven is traipsing around in high heels on a planet!!!!

personally I think the natives having a non verbal language was just a way to prevent anyone from being easily being able to ask THEM weather they wanted the shield to be put back up or not

Surprised you didn't point out the parallels between Natural Law and the pilot episode.

Voyager once again decided to ignore the Prime Directive. In Caretaker they prevented the Kazon from reaching the Ocampa by blowing up the Array. Now they decide to stop another species from claiming the preserve. You might argue it was the 'right' thing to do, but you can't just ignore your own moral code when you feel like it.

We need a series counter for all the prime directive fails.

I like how that guy showed Chakotay how to salute the fuhrer I mean say goodbye.

Regarding "one small step" yeah I've often confused the two titles/episodes because of the similar themes. I prefer this episode because we get to discover a new and interesting species. However, One small step has that scene when Seven tells Chuckles off, having just woken up and asked for a status update. :D She would have gone on if he didn't stop her and I loved that, because she was entirely correct and honest about how much he screwed up and just how pissed she was. (angry)

Today's Thought Experiment: Clearly Chakotay didn't intend to bring an empty box. That'd be foolish. So what did he think was in it that he considered the most important thing of the shuttle?

I always love when chakotay was in anthropology or historian mode

I hate how no one actually asks the natives what they want.

Just think of all those lovely pathogens now ravaging that indigenous people, that now have suffered massive culture shocks, have diseases felling them left right and centre, now with no way for medicines to get through.

Space Dog, just go with it :)
