Justin Huertas performs "We Belong to No One" from his new musical WE'VE BATTLED MONSTERS BEFORE.
"We’ve Battled Monsters Before on the surface is based on a bedtime story my dad told to my brother and me when we were children. For most of my life, I thought it was a story he invented but just last year he told me it was a story everyone knew. I came to learn he was telling us a version of a famous Filipino epic poem that they teach in schools in the Philippines. All this to say, I wanted to adapt something from my childhood into a story for me and my people today.” - Justin Huertas
