IRN-BRU Soda Review: Scotland's Other National Drink?

It's a soda, but it's every bit as dangerous as your standard alcoholic beverage.

Check out a few of my other beverage reviews:

before the sugar tax it had over double the sugar in it and was like drinking the blood of a 6 year old who'd smuggled themselves into the snack drawer.

The 'metallic taste' you mentioned might be the iron in it, it has ammonium ferric citrate, which contains iron.
It opens a whole new dimension when you add a little gin and orange peel to it as well! Makes it go from bubblegum to like an orange soda/spicy/butterscotch cocktail that's really interesting.
It doesn't go well with haggis, at least not as well as a smoky scotch.
Also, I'm kind of disappointed you gave it 1/2 a point higher than Ranch Soda. At least it's more drinkable than ranch soda, right? Right?

Irn-Bru was originally created as a drink for the steelworkers of Aberdeen, to stop them drinking so much beer on the job
Hence why it is said to be made with iron girders

I recommend Iraqi Arak. It's made from dates, and MUST be watered down a bit.

I really enjoyed how detailed your description was :) I still love the jokes and bits, but having a professional describe silly things is why I’m here, mostly. So, hell yeah 💕

Baijiu, best benzene-flavored beverage I've ever had to drink. And I HAD to drink it.

Stiegl Radler is a solid option, highly recommend it. Drank it a lot in Austria. Half beer, half lemonade. Sounds gross, but its actually pleasant.

Busey doesn't need Irn Bru. He's crazy by nature.

I know, I know, *"nemo me impune lacessit"* and all that, but aspartame does in fact rhyme with the way the last four letters of it are pronounced as an individual word, which coincidentally enough seems like a great description of this drink.

If you feel like enjoying more soft drinks, I recommend trying Ramune Soda from Japan. It's available state-side, but may be difficult to find. I wouldn't trust it to arrive intact, or I'd send ya one. Alaskan packages tend to be treated like footballs by all of the usual freight/courier companies, going either to or from the state.

First time I tried it I recoiled (a little too loudly) in disgust and a Scottish man leaned over and said “it’s good for the hangover mate”

Sunset yellow fcf is legal in the US- we just call it FD&C yellow #6 (ok, technically, Sunset Yellow FCF legally becomes FD&C Yellow #6, when the batch is certified, as synthetic colors require batch certification)

Vodka and irn bru is a classic combo in the north east of England too. We're pretty much a poor mans Scotland here. Great memories as a teenager.

"I don't need anybody correcting me on how to pronounce it..." Your call out has been noted.

Just tried this. I definitely taste rose. Can't find any sources to corroborate it, but I'm a perfumer and am convinced.
