Parrot Disco Max Range and RTH Tests

Testing the Return to Home behaviour and what happens when you lose connection at maximum range. For safe flying it's important to understand what it will do if you lose connection while not on a flightplan. The drone will return home at the maximum altitude reached so far in that flight, then descend to the loiter height at the home point. The Disco firmware version is v1.4.1 and the FreeFlightPro version is v5.2.0.

FYI: My Parrot Disco will RTH at the highest altitude reached during the flight. So if I flew you 74m then descend to 15m, RTH will be at 74m. In the case of this video, the reason RTH was at 100m, then 150m was because the peak altitude was 100m first, then when he climbed to 150m, that became the new RTH altitude.

After more testing I can confirm that it returns home at the maximum height reached during the flight.

I think it memorise the highest that you have flown when it must return, but I not sure of my statement :-) grate video.

Great video great information. When using flight plan my last weigh point was 1.7 km from my circular landing spot. ...What I didn't realise until I watched the video back that it was desending from 120m to the 50m of the circular landing over the 1.7km. I was a bit closer to some power lines than I would have liked ...so next time I will put my last weigh point near to my circular landing spot 😎

Great video, I bought my Disco this Xmas, just had a couple of flights in FPV. On my next flight I am going to change the settings to USA as you have recommended to get some more distance

Would you recommend the disco for casual flights, I live on acreage and I want to fly around the area, the disco is getting hard to purchase now and I’m wondering about firmware updates are they readily available

RTH go height where you set it and fly home. you can change it if you not like 150m that is illegal height in my country lol

3.4km is a great range! :) but that must be very scary when it disconnects and the screen goes blank? How do you know it is coming home? :)
I have the bebop uses same app but the furthest I've been do far is 330m!! Lol ;)
