Land Rover started building SUVs long before they became rolling fashion accessories. But in 2018 when they were looking to expand their Range Rover lineup, they actually turned to Jaguar for a little help, basing their new Velar on Jag’s F-Pace. Well, it’s not time for an all-new Velar just yet, but they’re making sure this one stays fresh with a host of updates for ’24!

Good to see John Davis still showing the cool cars and as always is witty as ever ❤❤

"Oh cool! Having to navigate menus on a touchscreen to turn on heated seats is so convenient and intuitive. "
-Literally no one ever.

When the Velar was first introduced, it legitimately looked like" the future" - here was a sleek vehicle with flush windows and trim, a setback greenhouse and a very sexy contour...it made every other SUV look old.

I owned a Certified Pre Owned 2018 Velar R-Dynamic HSE that I bought from Land Rover in Huntington, NY for about 3 years. Gorgeous car but, my GOD, what a POS. Thirteen unscheduled trips to the dealership in about 36 months for all kinds of failures, including the differential (I counted them up in contemplation of a Lemon Law claim). The last straw was when it suddenly developed a side-to-side rocking motion when banking left at highway speeds and I felt unsafe driving it. While I was trying to get that drivability issue worked out (two dealers replicated it, but never could diagnose it), one of the front parking sensors started beeping phantom proximity warnings. The dealership changed the parking sensor, but the problem persisted. I finally sold it to a Land Rover dealership in Albany, NY (no way I was going to sell it privately and stick someone with that jalopee).

In L.A. we call them “Kleenex cars” because they’re leased, used, and quickly disposed of !!!

So bizar to read negtive comments... We had a Freelander 2 : 255000 km, a RR Sport who has now more than both great cars without problems...

Hey Motor Week, be honest. Did anything stop working on the Velar during your testing, or was it problem free?

The interior is definitely a step or two backwards.

that new infotainment screen is the biggest downgrade ever!! the old one had such unique look with the dials in the screen. This looks like a cheap cost cutting glued on tablet. what a let down

I just miss the days when Land Rover was all about going on safaris and taking to the battlefield. Now they’re Starbucks cruisers.

There are no words to describe just how much I hate touch screens.

I like these, but a headlight cost $5000.

Bought a 2018 velar from a dealer in Albany, got it for a steal, the salesman told me the ex owner had early onset dementia and didn't know how to drive anymore. R dynamic HSE it's been 100% reliable best car I've owned. Feel a bit sorry for the old guy..😢

When I hear Range Rover I think of the big full-size Rangie. When I hear Mercedes I think of the S-Class sedan.

It looks the same as it did when it debuted. It's always been beautiful. But the dynamicism is left bereft of any actual sporting character. Due to reliablity. Also, it starts at 62K, and there are far more options that are worth their price to choose from.

All it has to be is reliable and it has abhuge advantage over the Range Rover

1:51 the all-red taillights with brake/turn signal combination lamps are unacceptable and need to be illegal. I don't understand how the US allows it and why non-US manufacturers downgrade their taillights to this substandard. This Velar's taillights aren't like this in its motherland so why the downgrade to these inferior, less effective and ambiguous taillights? I don't get it.

Another overpriced cellphone on wheels.

I don't like the exterior electric door handles that are on this Range Rover.
