People are fools. You never throw away old pyrex & you never throw away old cast iron.

My cast iron pan has survived generations. They cooked my GRANDFATHER breakfast when he was a kid. I grew up with these pans, they helped me cook over a fire when I was homeless, they cooked my Dad breakfast lunch and dinner, I cook with them on the regular, they're heavy enough to crack a burglars skull. These pans are so useful

One of best parts of older cast iron is you break down the bumpy texture over time from abrasion and then its gets super smooth and non-stick! Keep those old pans, they are the best!

I bought mine from an estate auction for the same reason. We live in a disposable society now.. new doesn’t mean “quality” anymore.

All my cast iron were originally my great grandmas. She got them from her mother, who got them from her mother. These things came to cali from Arkansas via wagon train in the 1840’s. They weren’t new then either. A good cast iron can last you centuries if cared for properly.

My mom gives all her friends old cast iron and old Pyrex when she finds them. She first cleans them up. Old is better she says. Thanks for posting and sharing!

That old pan was made by Birmingham Stove and Range. They were in business from 1902-1993. Absolutely fantastic pans, thank you for saving it. My favourite pan in my collection is a BSR No. 6. It's about 70 years old and without a doubt better than any of my lodges or other modern cast iron.

I have a couple of cast-iron pots that have been in my family for 80 years. That quality difference is unreal. It is SOLID

My MIL just came for a visit and dug up our old cast iron pan to make cornbread. It had rust on it because we haven’t been taking good care of it. She got rid of the rust and told us how to properly care for it and now it’s my favourite pan!!

Put your pan in the oven on "Self-Clean". It will burn absolutely everything off your pan including that coating. Just be sure to season it after. Honestly huge life hack, no chemicals, hardly any scrubbing.

Some people will never understand. I'll take that old cast iron over a new one any day.

The newer cast iron pans made by lodge are actually fantastic. The "coating" is just seasoning done at the factory, check out the videos of how they are made, it's awesome. You can do the cleaning process you are doing here on a new pan too and then just season with what you want to. I swap between vintage or new pans depending on how thick I want the iron for heat retention purposes.

Some people just do not understand how wonderful those old cast iron skillets truly are. When my Mawmaw passed away, her cast iron skillet, that had also belonged to her Mother, was what every single one of us wanted. 5 children, 11 grandchildren. All. Of. Us!! 😂❤

Hearing “dude” instead of “bro” was like hearing an old favorite song

My nana and papa divided up all of their assets long before they passed away. My papa passed away in 2021 from Covid and my nana finally passed two weeks ago after battling cancer and dementia at 95. I couldnt be prouder that she made absolutely sure that I was the one to get her cast iron pan, especially since I'm only 27 and all the older generation wanted it, and can't wait to try to restore it as beautifully as you have
