Same, I'm 46 and I switched to dark brown liner. I have dark brown hair and light brown/hazel eyes, and a light medium skin tone. I used black liquid graphic winged liner religiously for over a decade. It was an edgy look but I'm over it. I just want to enhance my features. Now I just use the brown liner and smudge it out into a soft kind of shadowy wing, if I want to wear a wing that day. I just feel like it gives you the definition but it's not as harsh looking.

How do you balance the light with med or dark shadow? I cant get it right. I have large eyelids like you. Slightly hooded. Overall large canvas. I CANNOT figure out how to balance the light shadow without making everything look big by it being such a large designated area. I want to look open and bright, I just haven't cracked the code.

The only times I’ve worn black eyeliner were when I was on stage. IRL, the darkest I wear is charcoal. Although my hair color has changed many times, the contrast of black against my fair skin and my blue eyes was always too stark for my taste. I prefer dark brown and charcoal. Clinique used to have a charcoal brown eyeliner that I loved.

I started using brown exclusively after 45. I'm olive toned with dark hair.

I am very cool toned and have high contrast. I can use ink black in my upper waterline. I've not ever liked dark black below my eyes as its too much for my look. Makes me look like a hooker, is aging and pulls my eyes down. If I use a light grey matt pencil gently through the bottom lash line it adds subtle natural definition. I do not take it any futher than where the hair grows so do not do inner third. (I am cool toned with black lashes. Grey might not work for everyone)
