Rare RCA Victor 45 Record Player 1949 Model 9-EY-3

Here is a rare RCA Victor Tube 45 Player. This was the first year that RCA Victor Victrola introduced the 45 Player. These original players put out a bold sound through tubes and this is when 45 players were at about their best, when they were first introduced before they became kid toys with poor sound quality. I have a sample of Jerry Lee Lewis and Joan Baez I think you will enjoy the old record sound and take a stroll down memory lane. Samplings of " Whole Lot of Shaking Going On" and " The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down".

Such great sound! I once fixed and RCA similar to this. It just needed the mechanics cleaned and lubed a bit.

I have one similar to this one. I purchased it for $12 at an antique store. Unfortunately, someone removed the amp ans speaker. However the mechanics work great. Still a nice showpiece.

i would not say sound quality today is great but back then that was more better then the 78 non amplifier i have several to me its the nostolgic a time machine being able to go back and think of the joy thousands got when playing them. life was so diffrent people count wait to go with their frinds to purchase latest bands to play or get together at somones home to listen to the records today its all about wifi love these machines and how much fun they are to use still today dont crush them dont landfill restore them

These aren't as rare as you would think. They sold a load of them to begin with, and then people held onto them, if for no other reason than they were as cool as f**k. I've always wanted one, but I'm not a collector and I wouldn't really have any use for it. They don't press "45"s anymore. I'm happy just to know they're out there.

I had this exact model in the late 1960s. Probably I should have held onto it, but I was continua0ly having component stereo passed down to me. Show tunes seemed to sound a lot better than pop.

RCA introduced "45s" in March 1949, primarily to compete with Columbia's "Long Play 33" records (introduced the year before). They also introduced "table-top" models like this to play them on- the idea being that all one had to do was place a stack of your favorite "45" discs on the automatic changer [which RCA claimed was the world's fastest], start the turntable, and you could sit back and listen, without getting up, for the same amount of time as a "33" record played...

My mom just gave me one of these! I had no idea they were rare. Good to know. It plays like a dream. Yours looks a lot nicer than mine though. Mom said she got it new when she was 14.

always remember those tone arms as being gear too fast, they look kind of spastic

@slybocat I bought two of them that didn't work and exhanged the parts so I ended up with one that worked by exchanging parts. The whole project cost about $70.
