Info please. For years I have search for an old 78 jazz or ragtime? tune from my youth. As a kid I had a few hand-me-down 78’s and an old record player. I cannot remember the title or singer but the opening line goes roughly like; “In old New York town in 95 was there that bill met jess, in a real hollar test she proved the best at showing off her . . ., ” and the chorus chimes in; “Sweet birds that fly, up in the sky, I wonder how they fly so high, little birds sweet birds”, I recall there were quite a few lead-up-ending-suggestive lines but each got abruptly interrupted at the crucial moment by that same chorus “Sweet Birds that fly . . . “. (I may have the names Bill and Jess wrong?). If you or anyone can shed some light on this lost tune, I would be very grateful. PS. Thank you for sharing your wonderful old tunes.

Not heard this version in years. I remember this version. I have preferred later versions of this song though.

I've always preferred the Gary Miller version on Pye with Davy Crockett on the flip, it reached #10
