Enjoying this series very much.
I am actually enjoying the 78 Degrees of Wisdom book ; I didn’t initially. I find it to be an excellent resource and I’m glad that after 3 years I reach for it more and more.
I like your comparisons of the traditional RWS deck and the Enchanted Forest. Thank you again. Greetings from NZ. 💚

Hi 👋, new sub... I don't have this deck, however I like deep dives of most because I can always learn something... tarot in practice as it were.
Your voice, location really lends to this fae - woodland European mythology type deck. My background is from a different continent, however I appreciate the wisdom from this deck already.

I had to pause to type this out as I too have to reframe The Hierophant every once and while.... that tradition really embeds and I want to make sure I am not just painting it with the same brush all of the time.

This is just the results of my journey with the card that challenges me the most....

I like history and the provenance of most things.... a curious mind. The 'tradition' on tarot theory is entwined with this card in the RWS. However the Golden Dawn's interpretation for the 78 cards of Tarot, was not for self empowerment, improvement nor for divination as they felt it was beneath them. They selectively chose pieces of other traditions, astrology, Egyptian mythology, Kabbhala, and tarot amd playing card lore, to fit their own agenda. With not a lot of respect for any of them. These cards were for ritualistic meditations and ceremony, for inclusion of a secret society that derived from dubious beginnings to disbanding because of infighting.... all this too say, is tradition and conformity is nebula. I personally find this really freeing.
Which brings me back to The Hierophant which comes from the word hierophany -the manifestation of the sacred, what we deem as sacred (our values and morals) is up to us (or society), knowledge, community, religion, nature. There are usually teachers, unless we go it alone then we become our own heirophant as it were. It is also number 5 which according to numerology is a number of mutation, transition, change and conflict, amongst other meanings. So put together there is an irritation, a pressure or whatever when we are faced with issues that test our values. What do we do when faced with challenges? Are we living our values, faith, understanding in our everyday life?

During these crazy challenging times we are living in - I feel this card is putting us all upfront and centre. A lot of people are scared and are willingly giving away sovereignty (the devil) to be under the protection of the Emperor & The Hierophant.... that is another tangent.

Have I made sense ... I hope so.
Now to unpause.
