I base what I believe about this on Matthew 6:33, so I don't pray for food because I believe God will supply all my needs, but I do pray for him to give me his word with understanding. He is the bread and he is the word. I don't know if that is what he is referring to, but it's been working for me. And Matthew 6:33 directs me to seek God, not daily needs.

It is in reference to JESUS
not food.
Matthew 6:11
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
John 6:35
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
