This video shows the construction process of a building's foundation. The narrator, who has been visualizing the project through 3D modeling, is excited to see the foundation taking shape. The crew encounters some challenges, such as missing rebar and the need to adjust the steel mat placement. They also work on extending the formwork to the desired wall height, using wood and screws., and the crew receives a surprise gift from their retired employee Arlo. Throughout, the narrator provides insights into the construction techniques and the reasons behind their decisions to deviate from the original plans. The overall tone is one of camaraderie and enthusiasm for the progress of the project.

I am a structural engineer and home inspector with over 30 years experience. I have to give you and your crew two thumbs up for taking the time to do things right. I have seen too many contractors cut corners. I know from experience the quality in construction comes from the top so good work to you and your brother along with your crew.

Hi Jaime, you might know this but if not, hope it would help. You could use the SketchUp application to check the volume of the wall structure or any drawn object as long as it became a single entity or object. Just ensure that there are no internal face before you make it as component or as a group. Then you can check the entity info for the volume. Love watching your videos. Amazing teamwork.

My wife and I (MN residents) were in Asheville, and made a trip out to Bryson City just because of how awesome you guys make it look. We were not disappointed. Got some BCO merch, which is now my favorite shirt. Super comfortable and looks great.

Did a form and pour like this once to help my brother on a job, just enough to know I'm good with never doing a job like that again, hard work and respect the men who can get out of bed every day to do something like that. I'll stick to building up from the foundation and be fine.

Congrats on the pour guys. All the prep was the key

The foam can be dissolved out as well. If you get some stuck or it's hard to get to, just pour a little Naphtha, Kerosene or Acetone over it. You can also burn it out with a torch, but you'll need to keep the flame on it to overwhelm the fire retardants.

Good job you guys for your first time. Wa St Union Carpenters build form walls most of the time, a lot of times 20 to 30 ft high on the sides of freeways. I'm a retired union carpenter and I've never not seen a vibrator used on a wall. Union Laborers here are in charge of pouring all concrete and vibrating the walls. There's an art to leaving the stinger of the vibrator in the wall section for just the right amount of time to get the air out ans quickly disperse the aggregate according to the mix specs. It's better to over kick a wall form than to under kick it. Also I seen many times when a laborer wants to get back at some carpenters, they find a weak spot in the form where it hasn't been kicked enough, leave the stinger in a little too long and move the bulkhead or open a crack in the panels. So leaving in the stinger for too long can easily raise the PSI of the volume of concrete. Should have run dry lines on the top of your form walls cause there's always movement, and a guy can easily run the screws on the kickers to realign the top of the wall. The laborers usually throw the hose over their shoulder so they get a better aim when they pour.

One thing I learned about formed concrete walls, is that when you think you're done forming, add more bracing, then once you're done doing that, add some more. I'd rather have it and not have needed it, than to have needed it and not had it

re: the little tie blocks at the top of the walls. for the future if you ever do something similar, why not stick a small block on either end to raise the block off the surface of the form an inch or so? more work during setup, but probably faster than the trowelling

I have been waiting on this one. Great Job

I met Eric and Jono at the Milwaukee airport a couple weeks ago. Told them I felt bad for them with their form work struggles and I would have liked to have been working with them to help out. I’ve done form work for about 10 years. Was kind of star struck though, so I didn’t extrapolate. So here’s a list. I hope it helps. Not meant as a “y’all are dumb c and I wouldn’t have done it that way” comment.

Build one whole side of the form walls 4”-12” higher than the finished concrete height with stiff backs and turnbuckles. Attach a string line to 2 blocks of the same size at the end of each straight section, then use a third block at each turnbuckle to adjust in or out to make the wall straight. Shoot finished concrete height on the wall which is still open, pop lines, and tack chamfer strips onto the wall to rest a strike off board on when finishing. Then tie rebar using the wall to measure clearances. Then button it up with the other side of form wall.
Random stuff: idk if it’s ok to spray form release on rebar, but I always avoid it. Look into “hickey bar”. The pigtail ties are yellow because they’re epoxy coated to prevent rust.

It would be nice if more construction crews got along like y’all do. Keep doing your thing.

Never would have imagined how much time and effort you guys put into these forms to make sure there wasn’t any chance of blowouts!
