Syriza Wins
Alexis Tsipras has led his Syriza party to yet another electoral victory. With nearly all the votes counted, his’ party has won with 35 percent of the ballots. It’s not a clear majority, but it is enough for the party to form a coalition government with the Independent Greeks party. Tsipras called for the snap election when he resigned last month. He’d faced a backlash within his own party for accepting austerity measures that international creditors demanded in exchange for a third bailout. He said he felt vindicated by the election results.

‘Europe Must Work Together’
Chancellor Angela Merkel has said Europe must work together to deal with the refugee crisis. She said that Germany alone cannot solve the social problems of the world. Over the weekend, Croatia sent at least 15 thousand asylum seekers to Hungary. Those people were then sent to Austria. From Austria, many refugees then move on to Germany. Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of several eastern European countries and the head of the European Council are scheduled to discuss the border crisis in Luxembourg on Monday.

The Pope and Castro Meet
Pope Francis has met former Cuban President Fidel Castro as part of his visit to Havana. A Vatican spokesman said they discussed religion and world affairs during their 40-minute meeting.
