As a little kid in the 1970's I used to get those freeze dried astronaut ice creams! Used a lot of freeze-dried veggies and entrees while hiking and camping from time to time. And yes, they do have freeze-dried apples and they don't tste or melt like dehydrateds! :D

Freeze-dried anything sounds like it will be something dry and tasteless. But its so freaking amazing far from it. Flavour explosion. I honestly cant say if i ever had freeze dried candy, but had a few other things and those where mind-blowingly tasty.
