' Do Unto Others with Respect' by Pastor Kent King-Nobles, September 22nd, 2024.

Why have Americans become so mean? That is the question I ran into recently in an article written by commentator David Brooks. He goes on to site examples. I imagine you could come up with your own examples. Airline passengers are having to be physically wrestled and held until the plane lands. Drivers pull out guns and shoot at each other over road rage incidents. Friends, neighbors and family members are disowned over support for one political candidate over another. People just seem to be more willing to be unkind.

The Heineken Beer company did an interesting experiment, putting very different people together for a conversation. Take 4 minutes (or less if you want) and watch this video.


What reactions did you have? How do you think you would have reacted in each of these encounters? Why?

This week in worship we will talk about RESPECT and what it means to live out the Golden Rule in a polarized world, and during a divisive election season. Our Scripture focus will be: 1 Corinthians 12: 1-26, helping us think about what it means to be the Body of Christ, or the church, together.

We will also get to welcome some new members into our church community: Leah & Denny Spafford.
