I made the most terrible games ever

In this video I would like to talk a little bit about one of the things that stopped me from making progress years ago. I feel not many people talk about it even though it is affecting almost every one of us - especially at the beginning of our game dev journey.

Games mentioned:

and a lot of my games:

Today I wanted to share with you something very important - a reason why for years I didn't create anything. The thing that made me lose the most time as a Game Developer. Don't make my mistake! Love you <3

It also depends on your workflow. Using a writing example some quickly pump out a feature film script first draft and then tediously refine it over several more versions until it's done. On the other side some constantly retool their script as it's being written so it will have a great polish when you get to the last scene, but the process all in all takes just about the same amount of time.

One route may reflect the development of Stardew looking bare in its first trailer while the other may follow the always super polished development aim of hollow knight.

Amazing video! Something that happened to me: I was kinda obsessed to make a metroidvania, fully featured, lots of stuff that I don't even know how to make. And a day, that frustration came... So I told myself: "Hey pal, you are not the first or the last game dev of the world who will struggle in a game. It's a brand new career, lots to learn, so... Let's have fun!"

What happened: I changed completely my game, building everything with the purpose of having fun on the development.

And guess what? My game is growing and I'm loving it! It's simple, effective, with cool mechanics and everything is healthy, I'm excited with the project and I know that some people will like it too when they play, because I enjoy it and of course I will not be the only one. For example, implementing your inventory system, I figured out how to extend a crafting system from that, and I felt like I was the developer of Red Dead Redemption II :D

Amazing video as always. Best advice I can give others is fail often and fail fast. You learn so much more from mistakes than success.

great video! I feel like I am currently switching over from that phase of working on ambitious projects for years but not releasing anything to working on a much smaller project and so far it seems to be a much more productive mindset. pretty obvious looking back but in the middle of it, just learning skills, watching tutorials and making demos, sometimes ya do end up there

Great Video, Piti. You make a couple of good points and I honestly felt like I needed to hear them ;) Releasing any kind of stuff is scary, be it art, games, self baked cake or anything we put our heart in. But what I realized that it's actually be coming less and less scary the more I share Updates. So, releasing more games really fits quite well, too :)

Hi Pit, will you come to GIC in Poznań? Maybe you want to go for tea or drink after to meet fellow developer?
