Büyükçekmece is a district located on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, here's some information about Büyükçekmece:
Location: Büyükçekmece is situated to the west of Istanbul's city center and is along the coast of the Sea of Marmara. It's about 30-40 kilometers away from the historic center of Istanbul.
Historical Significance: The area has historical significance dating back to ancient times. In antiquity, it was known as "Arykanda" and served as a key settlement during various periods, including the Roman and Byzantine eras.
Modern Development: In recent decades, Büyükçekmece has experienced significant urban development and population growth. It has become a residential area with a mix of housing developments, including apartments, villas, and gated communities.
