In 1897, Zona Heaster Shue was found dead in her Greenbrier, West Virginia home. It was ruled as natural causes, but her mother, Mary Jane Heaster, wasn’t so sure.

After the funeral, Mary claimed that Zona’s ghost appeared to her 4 nights in a row and revealed that her husband, Edward Shue, broke her neck after an argument over dinner not being ready. Her ghost even demonstrated by turning her head completely around. Mary Jane believed what she saw and demanded that Zona’s body be dug up.

Incredibly, the autopsy revealed that Zona’s neck was broken, exactly the way her ghost had said. Edward Shue was arrested and convicted of the crime. This case remains one of the few where a ghost’s “testimony” was used to secure a conviction.
