We do not own any of this.

SUCH a good song.
Lyrics Below:

It's not a silly little moment,
It's not the storm before the calm.
This is the deep and dying breath of
This love that we've been working on.

Can't seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms.
Nobody's gonna come and save you,
We pulled too many false alarms.

We're going down,
And you can see it too.
We're going down,
And you know that we're doomed.
My dear,
We're slow dancing in a burning room.

I was the one you always dreamed of,
You were the one I tried to draw.
How dare you say it's nothing to me?
Baby, you're the only light I ever saw.

I'll make the most of all the sadness,
You'll be a bitch because you can.
You try to hit me just to hurt me
So you leave me feeling dirty
Because you can't understand.

We're going down,
And you can see it too.
We're going down,
And you know that we're doomed.
My dear,
We're slow dancing in a burning room.

Go cry about it - why don't you?
Go cry about it - why don't you?
Go cry about it - why don't you?

My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room,
Burning room,
Burning room,
Burning room,
Burning room.

Don't you think we oughta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we oughta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we oughta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?

By far John Mayer's best song....the writing, the guitar solo....it's like silk. Perfection!

There is so much symbolism in this song it hurts. This "burning room" he mentions could be a relationship coming to ruin. And these two hopeless people "slow dancing" are each and every one of us in doomed relationships. The fact that they're slow dancing could indicate their hopeless indulgence in the inevitable. The fact is, these two dancers are so invested in each other, they hardly see the room crashing before their very eyes. The blind indulgence, if you will, of relationships allows us to look past the burning rooms of our own lives. And he mentions the very humanity of it; "Don't you think we oughta know by now?".  Like why haven't any of us learned yet. "This is the deep and dying breath...". It's so relatable it makes you wonder if John Mayer has been in love before (of course he has).

There's a special kind of heartbreak when you love someone, they love you back. No matter how great the chemistry is, no matter how perfect everything seems, there are those few things that just cause it to fall apart. It's no one's fault, no one did anything wrong, it just didn't work.

It's like a part of me was missing until I started listening to John Mayer.

People always think of John as a master guitar player, but he's such a poet as well. His lyrics are mindblowingly good, total mindfulness.

You can feel the heat slowly consuming your body. You wanna save yourself but you're too caught up in their love to move. Beautiful song.

I know a lot of people attribute this song to a relationship they're in or used to be in, but for me this song hits a bit deeper because it reminds me of the relationship between my mom and dad. I'm 21 year old adult now, but way back when, I could sense the relationship between them deteriorating when I was just in middle school. Whenever they would get into a argument or our family would be in a bad spot, my dad would do whatever he could to make the best of the situation and my mom would constantly push his buttons and demean him, and it would start getting to a point where even though he loved her, my dad would lose any hope he had left in their relationship. He still tried best as he could though.

Some days even when he'd get home tired from work, he'd immediately have to deal with my mom bitching at him and he'd just have to take it to not start any arguments. Even so, I could still see where my mom was coming from, my dad was a bit hard-headed and stubborn, so he could also sometimes be a pain to deal with. His love was a more traditional tough-love type and he'd often had a hard time getting his emotions/intentions across even if his heart was in the right place, so his concern would often be misunderstood as anger/confrontation by my mom and my siblings, even myself, when he talked with us at times. The little things he did that unknowingly irritated her would build up and she would blow up at him, prompting him to blow up at her.

Seeing them become so hostile with one another over the years hurt me and my siblings so much, but it had gotten to the point where we'd become numb to the hurt and it simply become the norm. What hurt the most was how much we'd loved them both despite their anger at each other. My dad was always our rock in hard times, whenever we'd get sad or lose motivation/happiness he'd always try to cheer us up and give us as much of his love as he could. My mom was a hard worker and a very, very compassionate and wise woman, she could always read our feelings and give us her advice as we needed it. We needed them both in our lives, but they wanted to push each other out of the way. Seeing my two beloved parents treat each other in such a way broke me, and is still continuing to break my brother and sister who are still living at home.

If there are any of you who are planning on or have already become parents and are in a rough spot right now, I implore you to make amends and talk to each other or at least acknowledge and accept each others differences now to stop your children from having to go through what I had to go through. You may be hurting on the inside, but your kids will will take more damage than yourselves seeing you two go through such a thing.
