Pond will need aeration if you plan on having some fish in it, a simple fountain would do the trick, you can even have a waterfall effect with a pump pumping the water to a small rock formation that flows into the pond. Also, if you plan on having fish in it, Koi is probably the only best option (they eat the algae and they are big) or some other local fish species that do not die during winter, a local fish shop with knowledgeable people can help here. Since it is open, you might have algal blooms initially before the plants grow big enough to consume the excess Nitrates produced by all the waste from the birds. I'd recommend to have the pond started first to have it cycled (bacteria that converts Ammonia to Nitrite and then Nitrate established) and also having the plants thriving before the birds are introduced. Future fixes once the algae is established might be hard with UV sterilization etc. A good pond is wonderful!. Good luck!. Rooting for a beautiful aviary. ~ For plants, try having fast growing submerged/emerged plants that also do not die during winter, (consulting a local fish store LFS is good for this too).

Definitely bury some ground wire to prevent predators from burrowing in! We made that mistake and came in to 50 pheasants that had become a late night snack for something 😶💔

You should build the coop into one of the side walls. It would save you on materials. You could build the coop half in and half out of one of the side walls. It could replace the lock in section because it sounds like you will already have one built into the coop. This would also give you a lot more space inside the aviary. If nothing else, it would save you from buying two doors!

Hey you should team up with Greg the pond guy and see if they can help u make a pond for your farm animals. It would be really cool for the Mandarin ducks and the other birds to use.

I suggest you already think about later when you might have to repair something and how long you want to keep it.
- The coop inside the aviary will keep you at a disadvantage - the birds will hide behind it, under it, on it and of course be on the solar panel. I suggest to integrate it into one of the sides. This will also make it easier introducing new birds or tools into the aviary, if you are not forced to put it and dirty bedding through a two-door lock.
- Concrete as foundation as well as some sturdy posts will hold for a long time and be a good protection against predators.
- Think about how you want to catch birds inside or want to do repairs. Being able to separate sections of the aviary of will be useful.
- If you already think about something this big might I suggest a hatchery as another project?

Re: double doors for safety: think about what you may need to take in or out of your working aviary and leave enough space that you can use the 'escape proof' bit properly... don't be like me who make her's too small! Oh and get well soon.

I had a manmade pond with a waterfall and 25 ft. River running into the large pond. We had a filter system and many plants. I worked at it constantly but could not keep it clean. There were many plants and koi. I am sure I over feed the fish. We started with 6 small koi and 4 large gold fish ended up with in 6 months having 200 baby fish. I loved it but is was a big job.
