I went from a 2018 15” i7. It definitely did what I needed for work but I honestly never enjoyed using it. Keyboard was awful, despised the Touch Bar, didn’t like the thin/tapered design and sharp edges. The newest mac I owned up to that point was a 2012 non-retina (which I still have) so I felt like too much of a departure from what I was used to. The 14” for me hits all the right notes. And the price wasn’t bad at all for the base model after dropping $2500 on the 2018.

M1 is already amazing for most people! I’ll probably wait until the next generation to purchase another MacBook. I got the M1 MBP and it’s just the best computer I ever had. Never got a single hiccup while using many apps.

Just wondering... why not replace both (sell them) with the new M1 Max MBP and external monitors? Basically, "dock" the MBP connected to external monitors, keyboard and mouse/trackpad, and then unplug when you want to go mobile. I have a 2017 iMac Pro with 16 core CPU, 64GB of RAM and 4TB of internal storage, but the new MBP M1 Max will *destroy* it all around. I am considering replacing it with a MBP M1 Max and have two in one.

I returned my MBP 14, too. I loved the screen/performance, but not the thickness/weight. I really didn't need such a powerful laptop, but wanted to try it, anyway. My plan now is to get the M2 Air if it has the miniLED screen. For now, however, I'm doing just fine with my M1 12.9" iPad Pro + magic keyboard. Great video! You've got a new subscriber.

Thank you for posting this. Too many people buying the whole stock up who don’t need this level. I got to give it to you, you didn’t lie to yourself about the specs you need to justify it. I saw several polls on tech reviews that the majority of people were buying the 16 max for emails and social media and it hurt my brain as a video editor who’s waiting until late December to get mine.

I love my M1 air.... Will wait to hear more about the M2 air before deciding whether to upgrade... also I love the form factor of the m1 air... not sure I like the M1pro M1max form factor...

A year ago the M1’s were said to be the most powerful machines some creators have ever used. Tells me for most the M1’s are going to be more than enough power for a few years. The urge for the latest and greatest every year whether needed or not is. It a great financial decision.

I have an M1 air and really want a 16” M1pro. I’m also a serial “upgrader”. Came really close, probably a dozen times, to upgrading. The reality though is from a CPU perspective for most daily tasks I won’t see the difference. The M1 is still a beast, faster than all my prior MBPs. So like you I just keep telling myself that I don’t need it lol.

I have never used a Macbook (air or pro) and I am thinking of getting one. I love the (speculated) looks of the M2 Air (I think it will be 14") and I am thinking of the MB 14" with 16gigs but wondered about 1TB? as a non Mac user, learning curve, what can I expect? I had a Zenbook dou and was disappointed, not in the performance, just not comfortable on the lap and the battery lasted 3-4 hours instead of the 17....

Which one would you recommend? Because of availability, M1 air 1TB SDD/16gb ram for $2.5k or the base 14 pro for 3k aud? I was originally going with the M1 air 512/16 for $2.2k but it would take too long to get it.. Thanks!
