Popes: Alexander VI #212, VRP Catholic Media.
Pope Alexander VI, born Rodrigo Borgia in 1431 in Spain, served as pope from 1492 until his death in 1503. He is known for his political acumen, consolidating papal power through strategic alliances and nepotism, often placing family members in high ecclesiastical positions. However, his papacy is marred by controversies, including allegations of corruption, simony, and scandalous behavior, most notably his relationships with multiple mistresses and the acknowledgment of his illegitimate children, including Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia. Despite these issues, his papacy played a significant role in the political and cultural development of Renaissance Italy.
Series on the supreme pontiff, from St. Peter to John Paul II. Taken from, Popes through the Ages, Third Edition, (1980, Joseph S. Brusher, S.J.).
