When you take things out of context of course you can seem to disprove points that I am not really making. Of course I am not saying that you are making fat or gaining fat during the actual period of exercise. Please use some common sense and look at the bigger picture. What happens with anaerobic exercise is that while you are still using your oxidative phosphorylation as a foundation for energy production, you are shifting from a mostly fat based to a proportionately much more glucose based energy metabolism based on glycolysis. Now Cortisol is triggered which will produce unwanted effects down the road when you are done exercising and go to refuel. Now the higher levels of cortisol and insulin will shift your body by some degree from fat burning to fat storing. As a result people find that they get more hungry and especially start craving more sugar and carbohydrate. This is especially important for people who have insulin resistance and maybe some adrenal fatigue. But what do I know, I'm just a clinician who proves these principles in my office in real life every day, because I deal with people who actually have some health challenges.

Let truth liberate people from gurus and chiropractors. Let the force be with you.

Since you want to be absolutely precise in your explanations: It's not EITHER aerobic OR anaerobic metabolism, it's a mixture of both. As the intensity goes up, the percentage of aerobic metabolism decreases, whilst the anaerobic increases. In fact, the anaerobic threshold is defined by a certain amount of anaerobic metabolism endproducts in the blood (pretty sure you know that as well). But that is not my main concern. What really angers my is the fact that you don't get in contact with Dr. Ekberg on that matter to discuss those things. We as the users of this platform don't need no alternating "bashing" between two channels, but a solid discussion between the two of you (same applies to Dr. Berg)!

I love your content, and Eckberg seems to explain minute details in ways that aren't exact. I have watched many of his videos, and the overall point I understand is that overexercising and using it as a primary weight loss method isn't the best way. He explains that exercise is great for health, but not necessary for weight loss. I agree with him on that based on my own experience. You can't fix a bad diet with exercise. I think we run into these problems when teaching nutrition health to people. Similar to when President Eisenhower had a heart attack and experts pinpointed saturated fat as the culprit but overlooked the fact he smoked 4 packs of cigarettes a day. Look at all the problems this has caused. Oversimplification is a problem.

I am a skeptic, however I believe Ekberg may have genuinely misspoken. He is a former decathlon Olympian and he knows the difference between aerobic/anaerobic exercise. I have seen a lot of Ekberg's other videos and this is not consistent with his other videos. This post is not meant to defend Ekberg blindly, but most of the physiological information he provides is available in tomes like Guyton's Physiology or supported by published metanalyses.

Hey Nic could you do one on Georgi Dinkov who pushes Ray Peat's views that going on keto/carnivore/fasting triggers undue amounts of stress hormones that initially make you feel good but ultimately wreck your liver's ability to properly process carbs and trigger a number of ailments?

Dr Sten Ekberg: Have been following him for years - always thorough and professional and scientific. Both he and Dr Eric Berg are chiropractors who are better than fifty of our average MDs and Phds combined. They do tonnes of research and boy, can they teach! Academic qualifications are great but they remain theory unless applied and tested for decades in daily clinical situations before the multifarious workings of the body can be even partially understood, as it pertains to the physiological mechanisms of the 'normal' human..

So what is the TLDR to lose belly fat? Caloric deficit?

Please watch Dr. Ekbergs video and try to delete what you just saw here. If all exercise leads to fat loss, pls try to exercise 10 hours a day for 30 days, you should be pure muscle at the end, or will you? While exercising you lose fat/glycogen of course, but then what, right then it depends on what you are AND did, burning fat but overloading your body to much will cause fat gain.

I think you are one seriously pompous piece of work. However, you are also logical and speak your mind, with support for your views so I will keep subscribing to your channel.

People whom you dissect have feelings and I would suggest that you consider their dignity a bit more when you make your video's. Try to bear that a bit more in mind when you criticise others because I can think of nicer ways of conveying your points.

Nonetheless, keep up the good work, and I am grateful for the substance of your video.

There is a small chance I’m commenting on a different video of his, in the event this is the wrong one. I want to comment on the idea I heard him say that people who have sweets should simply just stop with their willpower.

The problem seems to me that people can be addicted to sugar. If that’s the case, then it would be like telling a gambling addict to stop gambling. Can they technically stop? Yes. Is it reasonable to assume they will? No.

I think a better solution is to make sure they are serious at looking for solutions. That is something that is much easier for people to do. If someone fails, then as long as they are looking, I find that to be a more reasonable solution that an addict would tend to agree with and could reasonably see themselves doing.

The other issue with depending upon willpower with sugar is that it isn’t the best strategy. I think focusing on what creates the weakness, the hormones that cause cravings, understanding habits and how to change them, looking at solutions other people have found to work, those sorts of things I think would be useful to look at.

You don't have to explain yourself or your credentials. If anyone does not know by now that you are a knowledgeable scientist who is spot on in your critique of these "doctors" then they should go binge watch your videos. You are scientist and we're here for a science based education *period*

Surprised he made this video given he's a former Olympian. He usually does a pretty good job of researching topics. He had a good video recently on how bioavailable protein sources are. Heh, if you have an interest, would you do a video on the J curve relationship between exercise and appetite. Was listening to a podcast yesterday on SSD Abel YT channel with Lyle McDonald and this topic was referenced.
